Car Maintenance Checklist for Dubai — Everything You Need to Stay Roadworthy

Most drivers know they should maintain their car — but far fewer have a clear, organised car maintenance checklist tailored to Dubai’s conditions. Generic maintenance schedules written for European or American markets assume moderate temperatures, low humidity in winter, and roads that don’t bake at 70 °C in summer. Dubai is a different world, and the maintenance schedule needs to reflect that.

The UAE’s extreme climate accelerates wear on almost every component of the car — from the battery and engine oil to the tyres, brakes, and AC system. What needs checking every 6 months in a temperate climate often needs attention every 3 months here. Miss the service intervals and small issues compound into expensive repairs. Stay on top of them and your car will handle Dubai’s conditions reliably, year after year.

At Budget Car Buddy, we carry out all of the services on this checklist with a mobile mechanic that comes to your home or office across Dubai. Everything from AED 80, open every day from 10am to 10pm. Use this list, bookmark it, and work through it — your car will thank you for it.

Monthly Car Maintenance Checklist for Dubai

These checks take minutes and can catch problems before they become expensive:

  • ✅ Tyre pressure — check all four tyres cold (before the first drive of the day). Dubai summer heat raises pressure by 4–6 PSI; checking hot gives a misleading reading. Use the pressure specified on your door jamb sticker, not the maximum printed on the tyre.
  • ✅ Engine oil level — pull the dipstick with the engine cold, wipe it, reinsert fully, and check the level. Should be between MIN and MAX marks. If it’s dark black and thick, it may be overdue for a change even if the mileage interval hasn’t been reached.
  • ✅ Coolant level — check the translucent coolant reservoir (not the radiator cap). Should sit between MIN and MAX when cold. If it’s low and you haven’t added any, there’s a leak that needs finding.
  • ✅ Windshield washer fluid — Dubai’s dusty roads and construction traffic mean you’ll go through this faster than you expect.
  • ✅ All exterior lights — headlights, tail lights, brake lights, indicators. A blown bulb in Dubai can result in a fine and creates a safety hazard. Walk around the car with a phone to check brake lights.
  • ✅ AC performance — run the AC and confirm it’s blowing cold within 2–3 minutes. If it’s blowing warm or less cold than usual, a refrigerant check is needed before it fails completely.

Every 3 Months / 5,000 km — Dubai-Specific Service Intervals

Standard manufacturer intervals are designed for temperate climates. In Dubai, we recommend shortening these:

  • ✅ Engine oil change — every 5,000 km in Dubai conditions, even if the manufacturer says 10,000 km. High ambient temperatures break down oil faster, and going into summer on degraded oil is a risk not worth taking. Oil change from AED 80.
  • ✅ AC refrigerant check — if the AC has been working hard (which in Dubai means constantly), check the refrigerant level every 3–4 months during summer. AC gas check from AED 80.
  • ✅ Tyre condition inspection — look at tread depth, sidewall condition, and check for any embedded objects. Rotate tyres every 10,000 km to ensure even wear.
  • ✅ Battery terminal check — inspect for corrosion (white or blue powder). Clean terminals improve electrical connection and battery output. If the battery is over 18 months old, have it tested.
  • ✅ Air filter inspection — Dubai’s dusty roads clog air filters faster than in cleaner air environments. A restricted air filter reduces engine performance and fuel economy. Check every 10,000 km and replace when visibly clogged.

Every 6 Months / 10,000–15,000 km — Major Service Items

  • ✅ Brake inspection — pad thickness at all four corners, disc condition, caliper movement, and brake fluid level. Brake pads in Dubai’s stop-start traffic wear down faster than manufacturer estimates. Replace when pads reach 3mm. Brake service from AED 80 labour.
  • ✅ Spark plug check — worn spark plugs cause rough running, poor fuel economy, and difficulty starting — particularly noticeable in summer when the engine is already working hard. Spark plug replacement from AED 80 labour.
  • ✅ Battery test (formal) — a digital battery test gives you the exact remaining capacity. In Dubai, any battery below 70% capacity heading into summer should be replaced proactively. Battery replacement from AED 100.
  • ✅ Cabin air filter replacement — should be changed every 15,000 km in temperate climates; every 8,000–10,000 km in Dubai’s dusty conditions. A clogged cabin filter reduces AC airflow noticeably.
  • ✅ Power steering fluid check — check the level and inspect for leaks. Low power steering fluid makes steering heavy and can damage the pump over time.
  • ✅ Serpentine / drive belt visual check — the belt drives the alternator, AC compressor, and power steering pump. Cracking, fraying, or glazing means it needs replacement before it snaps. A snapped belt in Dubai traffic is a full breakdown.
  • ✅ Alternator output check — a charging system that’s producing below-spec voltage will drain even a new battery. If you’ve replaced the battery twice in 2 years, have the alternator checked.

Every 2 Years — Long-Cycle Maintenance Items for UAE Drivers

  • ✅ Coolant flush and replacement — coolant degrades faster in UAE heat and should be fully flushed and refilled every 2 years. Old coolant becomes acidic and corrodes the cooling system from the inside.
  • ✅ Brake fluid replacement — brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, reducing its boiling point. In Dubai’s summer heat, degraded brake fluid can cause brake fade during hard braking. Change every 2 years.
  • ✅ Transmission fluid check — automatic transmission fluid should be checked and replaced per manufacturer guidelines. In UAE heat, it degrades faster and shouldn’t be pushed past the interval.
  • ✅ Tyre replacement assessment — regardless of remaining tread depth, tyres over 5 years old should be assessed for replacement. UV exposure and heat in the UAE degrades rubber structure even when the tyre looks fine externally.
